This emblematic motif covers the outside the Philippe-Chatrier court. In the centre of the coin is a tennis racket and a ball resting on it. The word RF appears on the obverse of the coin and the face value on the reverse. The words ‘pile’ (heads) and ‘face’ (tails) refer to the ‘Toss’ at the beginning of the tennis match. The chair umpire tosses a coin, and the winning player chooses whether to serve or receive, or to choose his or her side. It's a quick and fair way to start a match.
