Belgium 2 Euro 2024 Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Belgium has issued a special 2 Euro Coin with the theme of EU presidency. From 1st January 2024 to 30th June, 2024 Belgium took over the presidency of the EU from spain. A country that retains the presidency for 6 months, after which the next country takes over. This means that each Member State becomes President of the Council of the European Union once every 13.5 years. As president of the Council, Belgium wants to promote cooperation between the member seats. They want to Strenghthen the European Union on several points- such as social cohesion, economic growth and climate change. During these six months Belgium will act as a neutral mediator to look for compromises between the different member states.
